1st Anniversary

Tags

Today marks my first anniversary working for the current employer. Yeah, exactly 1 year ago, I walked in the aisle of the floor 17th of the Plaza Office Tower and welcomed by the lead of ERP Team.

Working in the consulting company is not a something new for me as I had been working for another consultancy company for more than 5 years. But different fields, different grasshoppers; different sea, different fishes. There are so many things that I still have to cope with in this company and I hope it will not take long time for me.

I now befriend with most of my colleagues in the office especially the SAP consultant and my relationship with them is at satisfying level, at this moment. My before-and-after-working-hour life is better compare to my previous one. I can run or exercise in the morning and still have time to do something I love in the night.

As we never know what the future holds for us , I just wish I can stay a bit longer here and give the significant contribution to my company.

Happy Anniversary!

Tokyo DisneySea

AquasphereDisneySea in Tokyo is the only DisneySea in the world. It is built in the Tokyo Disney Resort, same complex with its companion Tokyo DisneyLand. By far, it is the best theme park that I’ve ever visited. The theme park can be reached by Train from Tokyo Station. Take the JR Keiyo/Musashino Line and then get off at JR Maihama Station. From here either you take Disney Resort Monorail or walking to Tokyo DisneySea.

In the entrance plaza, you can find DisneySea Aquasphere: a water fountain with a large globe. It is one of the park’s symbols.

SONY DSCThe park itself consists of several ports. Once you crossed the entrance gate, you can find Mediterranean Port. It is themed like the italian port city complete with the Venice’s Gondola and Canal. There are a lot of shops available around the port where you can buy gifts or souvenirs. In front of the port, there is a bay which used to perform some attractions for example the closing attraction.

Hakone

SONY DSCAnother place that I visited during my vacation in Japan was Hakone. It is a mountainous town in Kanagawa Prefecture. To reach the town, you can take JR Train from Tokyo Station to Odawara Station for 30-40 minutes and then change to bus. The bus can be found just outside the station. I recommend you to buy a Hakone Free Pass during the trip as it can be used for buses, trains, cable-cars, ropeways and sightseeing boats. The price is reasonable. The 2 day pass will cost you 3900 yen if you buy it from Odawara Station.

Hakone is renowned for its hot spring resort/onsen and ryokan. There are a lot of onsen opened there from the traditional to modern ones. One of the famous hot spring in the area is Kowadukani Yunessun. The location can be easily accessed by public transportation yet the admission fee is quite expensive compare to the other resorts.

What I like from Tokyo (Part 1)

April 2013, I had chance to visit the capital of Japan, Tokyo. Prior to my departure, I had my only own version of Tokyo in my mind. Bombed with japanese manga and anime since I was a boy, it gave me the imagination what  Tokyo would be like. Yet when I landed there and saw it with my own eyes, I was stunned, it is more beautiful than what I have imagined.

Like the most of the capital in the world, you can find the jungle of concrete in there. But what I like the most is the willingness of the government and the society to preserve the ancient building and palaces. The ancient structures are perfectly blended with modern architectures. Tokyo station is one of the example. The station has been operated for nearly 100 years and its original structure is still maintained even though there are some additional to its wings. The other station that keeps its original architecture is Harajuku station.

What’s in your bag?

Tags

,

Sometimes we are wondering what the people put inside their bag. Basically, what we put in there depends on our hobby, job, or even our personality. For example you would bring a book or novel along with you if you like to read.

If I have to bring my bag along with me, following is the items that I usually carry with:

  • Laptop

I choose Macbook Air as my personal laptop as it is very light and does not hurt my back. The battery can last up to 12 hours so it’s the right choice should I have to use my laptop in long time and I do not want to be bothered with the charging cord.

  • External Disk and Thumb Drive

As my laptop has limitation on storage, I would bring external HD and/or thumb drive with me. Should I have to access some files or do my job, I can access it easily. I choose 1 TB WD external HD with USB 3.0 and 8 GB thumb drive.

Kindle Paperwhite

Tags

,

When I visited Japan for vacation this April, I bought a new gadget, kindle paperwhite. I ordered it from amazon.co.jp prior to my departure and delivered it to my hotel in Kyoto. I was curious about this gadget as it is branded as the best e-reader.

Kindle Paperwhire

Kindle paperwhite is an e-ink reader with frontlight. The frontlight technology will not stressing your eyes as the light illuminates the text through reflection instead of shining the light directly to your face. It makes reading more comfortable even though you read in the dark room.

The screen has 221 ppi resolution and makes the text is appreciably sharper but not as crisp as text in a printed book. The transition between pages is quite good though it is not as smooth as the tablet.

Personal Goal

Tags

This is my first posting in this year, 2013. I know it has been several months since my last post. As you know, I joined new consulting company in the quarter 4 of 2012 and since then I must cope with the new culture in this company. The workload is not crazy as my previous company, but as “new joiner” I have to take some time to learn about the culture, the process, and everything to support my role and career in this new place.

Every year, each of us always makes some commitment or personal goal to be achieved and so do I. I wanna visit Japan this year, Kyoto and Tokyo to be exactly. I plan to go there on April during the cherry blossom. This is my first personal goal.

JHT (Pension) Fund Withdrawal

After worked for 5 years and 10 days, I resigned from my position as consultant in Accenture and move to other consulting company in Jakarta. Before I left, I got information from my former colleague, who had resigned several years ago, that I can withdraw my Jamsostek Pension Fund. This fund can only be withdrawn by employee who already joins Jamsosek for 5 years and resigned from his company for minimum 1 month.

Several documents must be brought when you come to Jamsostek branch office to withdraw the fund:
